Coral Gables has the most interesting garage doors in the county and the most rules about them. Merrick’s 1920s Mediterranean houses came with narrow carriage garages, often detached at the back of the lot off an alley. Newer estates on Old Cutler and in Cocoplum have wide custom doors. Both need somebody who understands what they are looking at.
The Gables covers a lot of ground and the door stock changes as you move through it. The original Merrick sections around Coral Way, Country Club Prado and the themed villages have narrow, often detached garages served by alleys. The Riviera section and the streets toward the university are mid-century with conventional attached two-car garages. Old Cutler, Cocoplum, Gables by the Sea and Hammock Lakes are large modern estates with wide custom doors, many of them gated and several of them on salt water. We work all of it.

What makes the Gables genuinely different is architectural review. The city regulates the appearance of exterior elements, garage doors included, which means a damaged panel is not simply a part you order. Style, colour and material can all be constrained, particularly in the historic sections. This does not affect hardware work at all — springs, cables, rollers, hinges and openers are invisible from the street — but it does affect what happens if a section of the door itself is damaged, and it is worth knowing before anybody promises you a quick swap.
On the historic stock: doors retrofitted into original openings with the wrong spring size or an unworkable track radius for the available headroom, fixings pulled out of century-old wood jambs, and detached garages with damp problems that seize rollers and rust brackets. Under the Gables canopy, hardware stays wet, and that is a real accelerant. On the estates: wide heavy doors with sagging top sections where a strut has loosened, worn end bearing plates, and on the waterfront properties in Cocoplum and Gables by the Sea the full salt package — corroded cables, pitted bottom brackets, seized hinge pins. Wooden carriage-style doors, which are common here, are heavy, absorb moisture and need spring systems sized for their wettest weight, which is frequently not what they have.
We ask what kind of door you have before dispatching, because a Gables call could mean a light 1920s retrofit or a 300-pound custom wood door, and those need completely different spring stock on the truck.

If a panel is damaged and needs replacing, that runs into both a specialty licence we do not hold and the city’s architectural review, and we will tell you that up front and point you to a licensed installer rather than take a deposit.
